Thanks everyone that did respond to this thread.

I was hoping that for some reason there was some space below the base molding as it is. But that's not the case.

The DIY video that I watched was from a good source, that guy that has all of the shows on public TV lol I forget his name now. They did morter/thin set all the way to the molding, of course they put the toe/ or is it shoe? molding to finish it. Apparently they must have had some space underneath, bc the molding after the project did not look shortened.

We've already pulled the toe molding off and simulated the height and yes it will look off. So, we're going to carefully remove the trim/shoe? base molding and reuse it; reaffix it after we've even sealed I think, then add new toe molding. Although much of the toe molding is reusable.

Thanks so much you guys for the tips.
I have one more question on this project but it's not having to do with the molding, so I'd appreciate it if anyone would have time to post to it? I plan to call the owner of the floor store tomorrow too.
