Thanks for all your suggestions!
We went to Lowe's last night & are going to the Habitat store shortly to do pricing, and all of the ideas you've given are in the mix (just depends on price vs appearance ranges). We had not thought of putting the kids in the lr, but have had them separated in their room for the last few months, but our daughter just turned 7, and our son is 4, so they're at such different stages now that it's not working (i.e. they keep playing on the others side & don't remember to have privacy borders, no matter how much we harp).
Thanks for all the ideas, and keep them coming please! =D

Since you are talking about making this longer term than a few months, I
would suggest that you actually build a wall,
I agree, if this is going to be up awhile you'll be happier with something more substantial. It will be safer for the kids and give you more privacy in your bedroom. If you have to time to look, most every city has some type of salvage place that has materials that could be used for this at less than new prices. I don't know the difficulty of putting in a prehung door...but a door you could open and close would be preferable to a curtain.
You didn't mention the ages, or gender, of your children...would it be possible to divide the room they're in? Using one or more of the suggestions given? . I've seen this done with canvas drapes
