Because I'm closing the gap between two 2 bys to keep wasps and hornets out.
It's the header on the new porch, made from two 2 by 8s (or 2 by 10s), one
on each side of the 4 by 4 post. There's an open gap between the 2 bys,
between the posts. I want to close that gap, especially recalling the size
of the mud dauber nest that was removed from the old porch.
Wasps are already nest building along the header of the back porch.
Tomorrow I need to go out and spray them. But the gap on the front porch
opens right into the space between the roof and the ceiling. Ideal for
nasty bugs looking to nest. I'd like to prevent that if I can. I have the
boards, and know they fit in the space. I also know my...erm...tendency to
use the wrong size nail or screw and split boards.
