That is what I did in certain areas - and it did work. But the ants are literally all over the house - they smell out anything, and I mean, for instance, towels that may have food marks on them and come out of the walls in droves. I will, however, try to combat them with boric acid combo and Terro. I suppose I have no other choice other than to burn the house down and live in (?) Alaska. I sometimes make extreme decisions, but my husband is against those things.

Years ago I got a large bottle of BA powder. It is very easy to apply, and was pretty inexpensive as I remember. It's virtually impossible to seal your house up tight enough to keep all bugs out. But you can put this powder in the cracks where they get in and it will stay there and be effective for quite some time.

I mixed up (according to Rhodale's instructions) equal parts of Boric acid, powdered sugar, and non-dairy creamer, for roaches. In six weeks I had wiped out the roaches, and all the ants in the area. They never get immune or wise up. They devour it with zest, and, when young roaches eat the carcasses of the dead ones, voila! they die, and, become food for others.
Also good for fighting termites. Not expensive.
Get the BA at your local drug store. It's used for eye wash.

I agree with you Ray. I haven't ever found anything that works as well as Boric Acid for cockroaches. Nothing else worked permanently like it did.
I didn't have as much luck with ants but it may have been like you said, the delivery system. I suppose it might vary with the type of ants.
Mixing some Boric Acid with sugar might be a good method, but not all ants prefer sugars. Find what they like and mix it with that as a bait. Maybe try some raw hamburger and mix some in with it. It's not supposed to be dangerous to animals. Boric Acid works by being taken back to the nest. It messes with the nervous systems in insects, from what I've read.
I've tried many things with cockroaches and nothing worked like Boric Acid did. I don't have much of an ant problem here so it hasn't been much of a priority.
