It DOES look wierd! But the ants got the better of me. They won. Except yes, the boric acid killed them off, so "I" won. LOL! No more ants, but then again, no more decent wallboard. I finally put a laminate plank that kind of matches the countertop behind the faucet. I tried VERY HARD to get backsplash that would match the counter and be the right width from the wall so as not to hit the faucet, but it was virtually impossible. With my bad feet, I struggled to Home Depot but they really didn't cut the boards accurately. The countertops were cheap laminate and I toyed with the idea of coloring them, etc. with paint etc. that looks like granite and so forth, rather than get new counters. If I could figure out a way to do it now, I would. I have no equipment (sanding, workbenches, electric saws, and so forth) and so there is no simple way to do this. Everything I do is done with physical pain.

We built the cabinets out 3 an 1/2 inches from the wall, gave us a wider
counter, allowed us to run water, dwv, and electric ON the wall, and gave us
a ready made kill zone for bugs

In one kitchen, I literally knocked down part of the wall behind the sink
(2nd floor) where the ants were marching in from, and I threw gobs of boric
acid behind the wall & sink. Yes ... it worked for a long, long while. I was
"trying" to invent a backsplash where I could remove part of it from time to
time and throw more BA down, LOL, but it would take more brain power and
know-how than I have but it sure was a good idea and would be still if I
could effect it. Tile the background, make a few slats there are removable
and voila! throw the BA down behind the sink. :-)

I haven't contributed, because my bathroom has been overrun this past
summer, but wanted to say Thank you for all the advice.
I had tried BA before, but it's been awhile, and that was for fleas (it
wasn't that effective or we didn't treat ever
