My big problem was thinking about the tile and the ease of tile vs. the cost and the fact that I don't like to vacuum. Due to the fact that I will have trouble getting any money out of this place at all, I may just take a vacuum and start thinking about getting more exercise. Even with vinyl sheeting here, the condo (although it ;probably owes more money than it can recover and who kbnows, might go into bankruptcy) has "soundproofing" regulations and although I am not "against" vinyl sheeting, they require a soundproof underlay and jacks up the price3 enormously. And no, my friends probably either wouldn't know or wouldn't be able to help me and I'd rather not mess with asking people who may or may not know what they're doing. If a friend came along and said: "Hey, I'll help you, I WANT to help you. You've done things for me so let me do this for you ..." (I've even given away free piano lessons but no one so far has come forward to say hey yeah let me help you ... so I'm trying to figure this out the best way I can (with God's help, becauyse He knows I need help figuribg this out). More I think about it, and I sure do thank people on this board for offering thoughts and suggestions, I believe I'll just go with carpet ... cheapest and possibly most cost effective way to go if I need to sell this place. What a mess.

Have you considered rolled/sheet vinyl flooring? They have the glue variety and the staple variety. This comes in very long sheets. Depending on the room size you end up joining just a couple of long sheets. Could be a DIY project with a couple of friends.
