THANKS Everyone! Re: [DIY] Removing WASP nest Any sage advise?

Thank you Wendell, and thank you Everyone on the list - am saving this and all the other WONDERFUL advise received for the next time I see a yellow jacket; I have my supplies and will activate before they get out of hand.

Ended up having pest control company, charged $125, unable to dig out nest as deep in the tree roots. Interesting to watch him work. He estimated there were about 1500 - 2000 yellow jackets. They died pretty quickly, few that evening and then maybe one or two next day. All gone now, they were getting bothersome and one stung me, no ill effects but I can see how being attacked by them would not be a good thing.

we are now yellow jacket free. While I would have liked to tackle it myself, my mom is 90 and really couldn't risk having a mishap, so in the end that was the better way to go, but I'm prepared now for the next time!

Thanks again all,
sharry

>If you go to tackle this on your own & with spray. Be sure to do this in the night time hours, not during the day. Doing this at night will let you know 99.9% of every wasp that lives on the nest is there on the nest. Not sure on your Temp's there at not, but cooling temps will slow down wasp's & bee's. I would wait one cool night & hit them hard with spray that will shoot up to & over 25 or more feet. I would even have a second can ready in the other hand to start spraying when the first one run's out (The can's can empty out in less than a minute in most cases) I would watch the hole the next few day's to see if wasp are still going in & out. If so, Hit them on another nite. Once you have it under control. Get in the & remove the nest & seal the area up by any means you can so not to have them again next year.

No idea how long they've been there, just became aware of them last Thursday when one stung my dog.
