As a wood treatment, you don't even have to buy the expensive oil: just rub a walnut on the wood, and brush away the bits of nut.
I found two beautiful little wood pictures ("marquetry", I guess?) at a garage sale, that were all dry and white-ish looking. Grabbed a piece of a walnut and started rubbing it on the wood, and it instantly took away the white. Did all of both of them; that was a couple years ago, and they still gleam beautifully.
