Re: [DIY] Sanding with a router

You can in all probability use any sanding drum that has a 1/4 inch shaft.  However keep in mind that routers rotate at 10,000 rpm or greater and you run the risk of either having a cheap drum fly apart or burning your work.  There is also the question of balance and a drum that is not balanced will vibrate and eventually tear the bearings out of the router.  A drill press is the better option.

I watch Norm sand his wordworks with a neat drum sander and I gotta ask:

"Can I buy a sanding drum bit for my router?".

I have a couple of router tables and I can't see why this would not work.
Has anybody seen this done?
