- 1-1/4 PVC will be fine for foot traffic, no need to goto galvanized, even if not too deep underground
- you NEVER want to have to pump downspout/ gutter water; look for another solution
- Something tells me your pump design might run 24/7 during parts of the year, or maybe year round if groundwater level stays up; May want to rethink. (Like powered attic vent fans, the motors can fail every 2-4 years, and that creates problems)
- Install pvc backflow checkvalve in pump discharge line close to pump (within 1-3 feet max); PVC Union can make it tool-free (never use a wrench to tighten PVC, if it leaks, something is wrong/ backwards or broken)
- Problem w/ 120v pump in the yard is shock hazard in wet environment
- Tub should (vent/ be open) to groundwater through fabric/ screen in bottom or side (re: floating issue)
- 1/3 filled sump is OK if not continuously making pump run, a couple drops oil will control mosquitos
- Hope this helps
the house because it's very difficult to get a hole big enough and deep
enough when working under the house.
Unfortunately, before we got to the right depth, we hit the
water table. The hole is about 1/3 filled and it hasn't rained in a
week. When we pumped out the water, it flows back in, and the plastic tub
I got at Lowe's eventually started to float - even weighted with two large
stones. We assume there will be a time when it'll rain so much, the tub
will float even with twice the weight in it
