[DIY] Gravel Landscape Question

Hi everyone,

Any expert landscapers here? We just had some pea gravel installed in a square area that used to be lawn before California's big drought. This space is bordered by straight concrete on two sides and straight brick on the other two sides.

When they cleared the space, the landscapers put down fabric but did NOT use any sort of rubber edge border. I've seen that recommended in a few articles to avoid pebbles spilling out. However, is that necessary in this case? It should be easy enough for me to push the pebbles back to install such a thing but I'm wondering if that's needed given that it's already bordered by solid straight surfaces. As in, what would putting in that rubber border actually accomplish? I get it if it was up against a lawn or path but not necessarily here.

But I'm a fairly new to landscaping so I wanted an expert opinion. Thanks!

Mike
