My comment: at least I won't have to go through the grueling work of removing that paste. Right? I can simpy tear off the old and put on the new. :-) maybe...Cindi

Doesn't sound like there is going to be an easy answer here Cindi. Without seeing it it's hard to determine the exact state of the wall. If the old paper has to come off anyway, and it does peel off, I guess you can get that far then do some test areas with different primers. I'm not familiar with Zinsser but sounds similar to the Kilz. You do have to use the oil based primer through, or at least that was what we were advised, in order to get the sealent effect we needed. Maybe put an oil based primer on with one of those double-rollers, it would give you a texture you could paint over for the speckled effect you want and might cover up the bad places. Think I'd get it as smooth as you can, then apply one good coat of primer with a regular roller, then a second coat with a textured roller, then paint over that.

Think you're right, pros will charge a pocketfull of change, I couldn't afford it. They do make paintable wallpaper which has a texture to it but for my money that's twice the work :) Take the old paper off, hang new paper, then paint it. Another option is the textured paint techniques, maybe have someone give you a hand applying it. Then paint.

I'm sure a professional would charge an arm and a leg to do it because it is grueling and time consuming. I've tried it and wound up texturing the wall with crumpled paper job and painting over that. The wallpaper that is currently on the wall is peeling off in many places AND is textured. (Two strikes against me for simply painting over it.) I think that taking off the paper and applying a sealant and MAYBE putting on wallpaper, whether textured or patterned might be the way to go. I know they make textured paintable wallpaper, so that might be another way. I really had my heart set on a speckled paint, but for the sake of efficiency I might give that thought up and go with wallpaper over the glue instead. Cindi
