When laminate flooring is installed, a gap of 1/4" is left between the flooring and the wall. For the floor to buckle, it would have to expand a total of 1/2". I would bet that if that 1/4" gap were increased you would be fine. Also flooring must be allowed to acclimate to the temp and moisture of the room it is to be put in. I would ask some other local (reputable of course!) companies.
And I have carpet, tile, and laminate in my house. I wouldn't worry about it taking away from resale value. As long as it's in good condition it shouldn't hurt resale at all. After all, different flooring materials work best for different rooms.

Subject: [DIY] laminate question
I need to know. Salesman told me that laminate will buckle in the heat, meaning that I have to leave my a/c on all year long in the apt. Anyway we have blackouts here because of a storm, etc., and nevertheless I don't want to be overly concerned if I'm away for months. What do you think about that and laminate? The idea of tile is too expensive considering we probably will move within the next few years, and carpet is a bit forbidding for me, so again I'm thinking about that problem with laminate what the salesman mentioned that it will buckle in the heat. Maybe I can put tile in the bedrooms and carpet in the living room/dining room area, but what frightens me is the resale if I have carpet in one place and tile in another. But maybe that shouldn't be such a concern for me. Anyway, the buckling of the laminate is something I need to think about because they sell laminate completely installed around here (I don't know how they do it) for $1.99 a sq. ft. They must use the worst laminate possible, but how would I know?
