I appreciate the honest answer. Yes, I turn off my a/c because I'm cost conscious and I have a cross breeze in the condo when it's not extremely hot. It's very pleasant, almost a paradise weather-wise in the winter. And ... there are complications with a/c units - such as fires. Yup, it happens. My condenser on the roof was sparking a while back and I had to get a new one. If I'm away, I'm afraid that could happen. I have heard that if I'm away the temp should be on 80 degrees anyway ... naturally I will have a neighbor or someone come in and check the apt. fro time to time, but I'm still wondering if laminate expands and buckles in a hot apt. I am now thinking to carpet the living/dining area and tile the other rooms

If you live in Florida, do ever turn the AC off anyway? Seems like a non-factor. if it's hot and humid enough to warp the floor would you be turning it off? I honestly can't think of any of my relatives in FL that have laminate. It's mostly tile or carpet. And anyone that has replaced flooring normally puts in tile.

I'm going to check it out with a couple of stores. One here does a free estimate coming to your home as well. I will also check HD. I'm concerned, though, about the laminate since a salesperson told me that with laminate you have to keep your a/c on all the time (in Florida of course) since it expands in the heat and will buckle.

We just had the rent house re-floored. Carpet in the 3 bedrooms and tile in the 2 baths, family room and kitchen. I found tile at HD 18x18 for $1.09 and 12x12 $.99 sq. ft. They did the whole house 1900 sq.ft. for about $5400, that includes everything demo, materials for carpeting and tiling, etc. So for your 1000 sq. ft, for $8000 sounds very high, unless you're getting very expensive tile.
