RE: [DIY] Re: Fixing veneer

You don't need to find "antiques" but you should look for solid wood
furniture, most of the stuff from places like walmart are made from particle
board, they don't even use a good MDF. We bought a bedroom suite for the
guest room about 3 years ago, it is all wood, queen bed frame w/head board
and foot board, a dresser with a 3 panel mirror, and two side tables, and a
mattress set. We spent about 1200 dollars for the whole lot and it is good
furniture, I think the only particle stuff we have purchased is the computer
desk, and it shows...

Wow thx for that insight. I had also purchased some living area pieces from
World Market only to find similar thing happening, but a thicker veneer,
before one year was up. I complained n tried to get to corporate but their
resistance and my new busy child kept me from bothering. It is an
embarrassment and shame that we are being sold sawdust as u say, which is
just how ive come to see it at hobby lobby even. Frightening! Thanks for
reinforcing I should find antiques for that reason.

wouldnt you know it, the veneer around the top edge of the drawers started
peeling in no time. How can this be repaired so that its attractive for
resale or longer term keeping. Its a very deep brown. I just put scotch
tape at present to prevent more peeling but that interferes withh closing
drawers a little.

some clamps. Some of the wood glues even come in colors. The clamps you need
are pinchers clamps. Just follow the directions on the wood glue, clamp it
after aplying , clean up any glue that squeezes out.

made of wood products...which means ...it's what I call sawdust and
glue...then they slap a plastic wood veneer on top of that. It weights a
ton and falls apart while being used or moved. Screws can't even support the
weight.

to get the real thing, real wood. A lot of the time the prices are very
compariable to the new crappy stuff.
