Re: [DIY] Job security

written by lawyers and the insurance industry! find a fixture you like and then check the manufacturer's website for installation instructions before you buy. some fixtures are rated IC, meaning insulation contact, some aren't as you already know. be prepared to seal the edges of the cutout to disable air penetration from the ceiling cavity and air leakage from the treated space below.

Subject: [DIY] Job security

I was looking for requirements concerning recessed light installation in a kitchen.

It took me near 3hrs to thumb through an online version of California Building code bible to find a few bits and pieces, and I still didn't find exactly what I needed to know.

It reads like something written by Damn attorneys, not electricians or engineers.

What I expected was a page under recessed lights, outlining everything regarding the clearance to flamable materials, mounting, wiring, etc.

Instead, I had to go to 6 different sections scattered about the book, and pickup the footnotes where "recessed lighting" is mentioned, and mentally glue together these tad bits of info to educate myself.

That's MAD! isn't it.
I figure it's written this way so only building inspectors understand what the hell they're talking about.
"job security".
