It would help a lot for you to be able to clamp after gluing. Maybe lean something heavy against a piece of wood over the area.
Urethane glue foams when it begins to set. Its basically the same as Urethane foam filler but probably is a little different in the formulation. If its not clamped it will foam to fill the void.
Setting time will vary depending on temperature. If its cool, below 70, give it a few hours to set. If its warm, above 70, maybe a half hour to an hour. You can tell when its set by observing any that foams out. When what foams out is stiff, its pretty set. Like any adhesive or paint, hardness will increase after days pass by. Its a curing process. A file or sandpaper will scrape away the excess. You might try gluing something else and leave it in the area you plan to do the gluing. See if it sets and how long it takes. If its really cold, you might try warming the area up with a heat gun or a hair drier occasionally to help the glue set.
Depending on how much you apply it will foam and expand out of the joint when it reacts to the water. So keeping the amount applied to a minimum is good for it not getting it everywhere.
If the surfaces that are being glued are dry, then spray with a little water before you apply the glue. If they are already wet, the surfaces will have all the water you need.
If there is enough room in between the surfaces, applying the glue with a Q-tip might work. Make every attempt not to spread the glue beyond where you want it. It sticks to everything, including your hands. Latex or Nitrile gloves are a really good idea when using it. It will stick to your skin but not much will dissolve it on your skin. Its as sticky and messy as Super Glue but doesn't set as fast. It does flake off your skin after a day or two. The oil in your skin releases its grab to the skin after some time.

Hi Steve, Thanks for your response to my question about vinyl cladding coming apart from the wood underneath. You suggested urethane glue. Can you tell me how fast it sets? There will really be no way for me to clamp the two surfaces together while it dries. I'm thinking maybe using good old duct tape to hold things in place until the glue sets. I'm not sure that will work, though.
I hate, hate, hate this new Yahoo group format. I used to be able to send a response to somebody via private e-mail now I don't think I can.
I heard back from Andersen Windows and they have absolutely no suggestions - thanks a lot Andersen!
Thanks. Joyce
