There is a remote sensor in this system --perhaps you
could call and ask how they do the remote tie-in to
the hot water line...

Subject: [DIY] Hot Water Recirculating Pumps
Our gas water heater is on one end of the house, and most of our hot water needs are on the other end of the house. This means a lengthy wait for hot water to arrive. We have been considering a recirculating pump to hasten the arival of the hot water. We will have a closed loop system, returning the cooled hot water supply to the water heater, rather than pushing the water into the cold water lines.
Now we need a triggering device. We could get a timer unit, but we are retired and not on any kind of schedule. A timer would be running the pump even if we do not need hot water at the time. Then we may need hot water and the timer is off. So the timer concept is not good enough.
We could get remote controls and turn on the pump remotely every time the hot water is desired. This means extra electrical wiring (according to a plumber we will work with) and actively involved in turning the pump on every time it is needed.
I would like to find a device that can detect when the hot water faucet is opened and activate the pump only when the hot water tap is open. I thought I had found such a device (I think it detected the pressure drop in the line), but I lost the bookmark or misunderstood the product description. Now I can't seem to find the right set of search terms to be able to find a sensor to meet this need. Any plumbers here that know of a devise that will do this for our hot water recirculating system?
Thanks, Deborah
