Do it Yourself: [DIY] Another hazaed with garage frig- Extension Cord

I lost my fav little frig by plugging it unknowingly/unthinking into the
same 110VAC outlet with my little garage heater (which was on a #10 10'
extension cord..working just fie, keeping things toasty... when I moved the frig
over to that spot and circuit it lasted about 2 weeks before both heater startup
and compressor start-up happened coincidentally ..don't you love the smell
of toasty electrons with morning coffee???

The manufacturer is protecting themselves against
people that will grab a lightweight extension cord and try
to operate the refrigerator with it. There is no problem
with an extension cord, provided it is sized correctly.
The National Electric Code has detailed information on
sizing. But to avoid that hassle, just follow the advice
of another user - get a 14 gauge extension cord. That will
be good 15 amp service over a 20 foot distance, which would
be fine for your refrigerator.
