RE: [DIY] REPLACEMENT WINDOWS

I don't understand - are you getting the windows and someone else is installing them?

If so, get double-paned replacement windows.  Triple are better, but not enough for the cost unless you have a new well insulated house.  Usually, there is still heat leakage through the roof, basement and walls, so the further expense is wasted.  You can get a UV tint on them which would further help on the heat transfer.

As far as the cost to install, I cannot say.  It depends on your situation - how many windows, floors, and the experience of the installer.  We just had some windows put in a rental 5-unit apartment building and cost us a bundle.  But we got a good company to measure, build, and install them and we're happy with the job they did.  Since we're paying for the electricity in that building, we felt it was a good investment.
