I think in a previous thread, we learned that a filter that is too fine can also cause problems. So don't get anything more than what you need. The $8 filters are usually all you need.

is it cooling well? if not, is the air flow feel good at the vents? is the suction at the filter strong? low air flow will indicate a clogged coil which causes freezing on the coils and compressor
