RE: [DIY] Siding and Window Replacement

My opinion, you should do both about the same time. remove the siding to put in the smaller window. You will need to fill in the spot that the smaller window does not take up, and you can get a new construction window, that IMO seals better from leaks around the window.
I would at least remove the aluminum siding, Would not be much, but could take it in for scrap and get a few bucks out of it. The wood siding would depend on the condition of it. I did remove my old wood siding.

For what to put back on, I guess that is up to you. Depending on what you like and your budget.

Subject: [DIY] Siding and Window Replacement

My house was built in 1955 and had wood siding which was covered with aluminum siding maybe 30 years ago. I will be replacing a patio door and one window. All the rest have been replaced already. I want the siding to be replaced also. I would like to know what should be done first, siding or window. If possible I would like a smaller window. It is above a bathtub. And suggestions as to siding choices? Our garage has vinyl which was installed about ten years ago when we had a new garage built. Both are white. Should the aluminum siding on the house be taken off before new is installed? Should the original wood siding be kept on?

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks,

Nancy in Wisconsin
