What you probably have is a plastic coated either paneling or very thin sheet rock.

I have been trying to paint the walls in my Mobile Home but what looks like bead board is apparently not. It does not accept paint at all. Right now i am buying wall paper than you can paint over but that gets a bit expensive. Does anyone have any ideas for me?
