I had this done to my house. I removed all wood siding, added additional insulation and weatherproofing, installed new windows and went back with hardi-plank siding. The hardi-plank was the best idea and I would do it again. I had all of this done at the same time by the same contractor.

I will be replacing a patio door and one window. All the rest have been replaced already. I want the siding to be replaced also. I would like to know what should be done first, siding or window. If possible I would like a smaller window. It is above a bathtub. And suggestions as to siding choices? Our garage has vinyl which was installed about ten years ago when we had a new garage built. Both are white. Should the aluminum siding on the house be taken off before new is installed? Should the original wood siding be kept on?
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks,
