Re: [DIY] Neem RE:/ gardening groups! Oh, yea.

Ally, I belong to a facebook group  Southern Gardeners... not over the top in followers but at less than 3,000, it is extremely helpful and inspiring photos abound. There is also an

Art in the Garden group which is also a treat.  You might see if there is a specialized group for your area.  Another great group is   Dave's Garden...  it is wonderful!  Not too many ads and the forum in that group covers many sections of the country.

Re: [DIY] Dishwasher is DEAD DEAD DEAD

FYI I was told that Sears is discontinuing their extended warranty. Pretty disappointing because the only reason I purchased carpet cleaners (shampooers) from Sears was because they offered a great extended warranty.

I don't know if any dishwashers last like they used to.  My daughter had a Bosch and she ended up hating it.  She replace it with a Kitchenaid.  It failed after a year and is getting repaired under warranty.  I have a 4 year old Kitchenaid that's still going. However, I must admit, it has had a number of repairs - all covered by Sears 4 year extended warranty (excellent!). I believe most of the repairs stemmed from using dishwasher packs in the dispensor in the door.  We had heavy residue build up in the dishwasher over time because the detergent did not completely dissolve, resulting in premature failure of the food chopper wheel and the internal pump (at age 3 years).  We started putting the detergent pack in the bottom of the dishwasher as directed by the repairman.  Not only do we not have residue buildup any more but also, the dishes come our radiantly clean with no spots on the glassware.

Our 19yo Kitchenaid dishwasher finally died. It fills up but doesn't wash or drain. Not surprised, it's pretty old and the control panel buttons lettering have pretty much worn off and it's not cleaning as well as it used to.  I think we got our moneys worth after 19 years so we're good with getting a new one. This Kitchenaid dishwasher has been a real workhorse.

Soo...we're in the search for a new dishwasher.  Like the Kitchenaid, we don't believe in buying a low end appliance since it'll most likely end up costing us in the long run.

We've looked at Bosch, Kitchenaid, Asko, Fisher and Paykel (we have their washer and dryer and really like it) and some others.  My wife saw a friends new Asko and is seriously considering that brand/model.

Any comments/recommendations on a replacement dishwasher?  We have to do this either TONIGHT or Saturday. We have a very busy household and the thought of hand washing everything is frightening.

Re: [DIY] Re: Fanlight Chain pull

Thanks Ray

There seems to be a link here to a 4 wire replacement part. And it led me to another site that may be able to help me. I see there are  possibly 2 different voltages, so I will reach out to one of these stores online and see if they can help me. Maybe it is possible to get the piece.

Re: [DIY] Fanlight Chain pull

Well. I figured a new one would probably be $75. The switch is only $3. So I love when I can sAve money.

My son is obsessed with things he can pull or push. So he really wanted to pull the chain. I picked him up and held him there, but had no idea he would tug it that hard. He is strong for a 2 year old.

Interesting. What would you recommend? How would I color coordinate that?

Black feed of the new switch goes to the current back and blue wires? White feed of the new switch goes to the current white and yellow wires?

It seems to be. What is weird, it that it seems to apply to the switch that controls the fan, not the light. But those must be interchangeable, no?

At least the gives me a resource to explore.

Thanks.

Have you looked in your local area for a store that sells mostly ceiling fans and lights? Often this type of store will do repairs and offer the option to special order repair parts for DIY.
