(IN SOME CITIES) that require a check valve on the city line, expansion tank is required to prevent leakage from the relief valve when the water is heated; in some cities, it simply expands back toward city line. The other issue can be water hammer and hammer arrestors (small, spring loaded pistons) installed on both lines near washing machines & other solenoid devices. The sudden shock of solenoids closing can cause such force as to blow apart a copper solder joint, and this happened a few years back at daughter's house where they had a timer connected to hose for lawn sprinkler
