I just googled spreadstone and watched a video for using it on a walkway. Not sure about counters, but like it for this purpose.

They had a demo of it at Ace Hardware. It had a texture to it that you could feel. I'm betting that with several coats sealer that it would smooth out some, but it would take a resin type sealer I think to make it completely smooth.
