I want to add a desk/countertop for my 3yr old along a wall that has a large low window. Currently there is an extended sill(?) i can put this on top of and attach to as it is the right height for now. I thought i could just get the right size melamine ( as it has a smooth finish and would work great for cleaning up her crafts n playdoh),i would then curve the out- end so its not a sharp edge and finish it with the melamine veneer ( though seems would be hard to stay on- just realized maybe i could paint that). So how do I stabilize it. That is an area i really dont understand, if there is a book on ways of stabilizing shelves etc that would be great for me. It will have a wall on the other side to attach to. 6.5' long, 15" wide. I will want it semi permanent since she wil outgrow it. Also I want to put up shelves on an opposite wall for all her crafty stuff. I dont want the melamine there since all my trim is oak.
