A couple things to consider, is it for a wet area like around a sink, shower or tub? Is the floor sturdy now when you walk on it, or is is sufficiently sturdy so the tile wont's flex and crack? when adding the cement board, mud and tile, will that effect the height to the next adjacent floor, or will it all be tiled and result in the same height?

I just tore out the carpet- there is plywood on the floor- is a pier and beam foundation- at least that's what we called it when I was a kid-Should I use a 1/4 in cement board under the tile- over the plywood floor and use cement screws to secure it every 6 in? Please advise, I appreciate the info- ty ahead of time.D
