I practice in the area of bankruptcy, and I know of no states in which
the homestead protection protects your home from the claim of a valid
mortgage holder. The purpose behind the mortgage is to secure the note.
This increased security is why home mortgages typical have low interest
rates there is less risk for the lender.
Homestead protections protect a home from other creditors. I avoid
judgment liens against homesteads regularly.
