It is funny. Only in Houston (or other big city) would you find Lowes and Home Depot located exactly one block apart. The demand for big box stores must be incredible. We still have viable Ace Hardware stores (better service and availability of hardware) and a few private hardware stores (incredible service and even higher prices).
I guess the best compromise is to small country town, still available in Texas, and drive into Houston on big shopping runs.

That's kinda funny. I feel the same way about Menards in our area.
Lowes and home depot could definitely use some competition in our area. From: DoIt_Yourself@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DoIt_Yourself@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Dale S That doesn't surprise me, I caught them doing that before. Menards is expanding by leaps and bounds into our area and really giving HD and Lowes a run for their money. The lumber Menards carries is absolutely beautiful and they also have a nice selection of hard woods as well. I was looking at some of their 2x4's that looked and felt to me to be almost dead dry and very straight, something I haven't found around here in a long time. Dale in the Flatlands. Bob Davis wrote:
