I took it to mean install the 2x4 block inside the wall behind the tub, assuming the normal access panel exists behind the plumbing or some other way to finagle the 2x4 in there.

Perhaps something a little nicer than a 2x4 block in your

I found a small nice white plastic conical structure, looks like a
small pedastal, in the thrift store off of an old light
fixture..drilled two 3/16 and one 1/4" hole, two to mount to the wall
and one for the shower fixture pipe (a nice shiny finished pipe strap)
Total cost about $3 and the final product looks like it was
made for the shower..all matching white and stainless strap..
Just my $1.02
