(IMHO)
A common mistake of many is to apply pressure to a power sander (of any type).(when they SHOULD HAVE replaced the paper )
Pressure should be not much more than the weight of the tool guided by your hand and then LET THE POWER TOOL DO THE WORK. It actually does a better job with tool pressure and new sandpaper. If you want to apply pressure, then hand sand.
More than one plastic coupler in a finish sander has been stripped/ broken by people apply pressure. The couplings are plastic to protect the tool motor
