The house is going up for sale! Front door is (was) brown stain with taupe trim, used brick exterior. I want to paint it a color to lighten up the front porch area. I do not plan to paint the interior side of the door, it's excellent condition, stained oak. But, what about the edges of the door? Are they painted the new color or left brown? I can't tell if it was stained the outside color or not. And along with that, the door trim color. Now we have taupe on the outside and the stained oak on the inside. I'm going to DIY it, picking up supplies this weekend if it doesn't start raining. What's the correct way?
I've painted & stained lots of doors but never redone one. Assume it needs a primer (oil base?). Don't anticipate problems with the painting process, It's a 4 panel door and I'm going to use a small brush for the inside edges of the panels, then a roller on the panels, and thinking of rolling the first on the door and using a brush for the second coat? Thoughts Will this need a separate finish coat?
Thanks!!
