I used to clean houses and offices for a living. First of all, what does the stain look like? What color is it? Do you know what caused it? I've used CLR and was never impressed by it. Lime Away always worked better for me for lime. If it's rust (brownish red), use something like Barkeepers friend, Zud or IronOut. I would not use muratic acid. It will most likely take lots of enamel off and will probably discolor the chrome of the drain or any other chrome.
