Everything else aside, it works good and I'm not sorry we got it. The fact that I wanted it for the dishwasher may be one of those life jokes. We took it off the timer so day or night, no matter how cold outside, I get hot water upstairs at the kitchen in maybe 4 seconds and the new half bath — which has a loooong run — just takes 11 seconds - as opposed to the 5 minutes it took when they first installed the sink.
Our other expense that may or may not have been necessary was to install heat tape on the pipes that are in the open area of the barn, instead of just the foam insulation. Only used it twice this year, when it stayed below freezing several days. Frozen/split plumbing pipes 15' in the air wasn't something we liked to think about. Our new plumbing system works fine, was expensive, but more than tearing up the 6"concrete floors and redoing them? I don't know, probably not and was certainly easier, especially since no one wanted to mess with the jackhammer approach. We can add a full bath upstairs with no more expense and I was able to add a laundry room where I wanted it. Will it last forever? Don't know that either but there are always repairs to a house.
If circumstances had been different we might have done things differently, but it wasn't and we didn't. This living in a barn is definitely an OTJ learning process, LOL.
