Why would you tape if you are going to cover it up? The sheet rock will give a more solid wall but I don'' understand the rest of the job. I don't know how many square feet you are talking about but 6,000 sounds a bit high to me for something that is just a backing. Have you considered OSB for backing instead of sheet rock? Much easier to attach to for installing your ship-lap.
We just got the estimates for getting the walls insulated, sheetrock/taped, ready to paint……. Over $6000 then another $2000 for the planks to go over the sheetrock. Is it necessary to cover the fiberglass batts with sheetrock, if you're going to put a shiplap siding up? We have tongue and groove on several walls but don't think I want that on all the walls. I certainly wouldn't want to pay another $2000 to paint the sheetrock and put siding over it.
