Re: [DIY] Good news/bad news re Samsung Washer

We bought the LG top loading washer and dryer (front loading) set.  It also doesn't have an agitator and it holds a ton.

We had a Fisher and Paykel W&D for about 20 years. Worked great until the washer died and the cost to repair
was almost the same as buying a new washer. The dryer was also losing it's heating ability so it was time to just swap them out.

The one thing my wife complained about after we got the LG was that the washer tub is *deep*. She stands  5'4" and has to
really reach over to get items at the bottom.

Some observations:

Pros:

1.  It really cleans well, even though it LOOKS like it doesn't use enough water.  LG also recommends using about half
the amount of detergent you normally use.

2.  It's very quiet.  Has smart technology that automatically adjusts itself if it becomes unbalanced (unlike myself).

3.  The controls are on the front of the washer and dryer, not on a panel on the back.  Keeps you from having to reach
over the lid to control the settings.

4.  Because of the tub size, it can easily take large king size comforters.  Dryer is same size capacity so whatever amount
can be washed, can also be dried.

5.  Clothes come out 75% dry after final spin cycle, makes drying time faster.

6.  Plays musical tones when done.  (Yeah, not a big deal but it's cute). It seems to really be proud of itself when it's done. LOL.

7. Washer has a clear top so you can actually see it washing your clothes.

8. Automatically sets water level based on self weighing the load.

9. Automatically sets rinse, secondary wash and final rinse/spin cycles if desired.

Cons:

1. Expensive. About $1,600 for the set (bought at Home Depot).

2. White decorative painted lines on the glass top have chipped. LG said it's "normal wear and tear".  No effect on cleaning
of course just annoying.

3. Dryer is *extremely* sensitive to kinks in dryer hose.  Will error and stop running if it senses any back pressure from the dryer
hose.  (this is part of a safety measure to prevent lint buildup and potential fire).  BUY A NEW HOSE WHEN INSTALLING.

4. Has smart bluetooth technology to enable monitoring via smartphone, however currently only supports Androids.  Can start/stop
monitor wash and dry loads remotely (only a con because for some weird reason, it doesn't support iPhones..yet).

5. Because control panel is on the front, there's no back panel where controls normally are. Takes a little getting used to.

6. Top of both washer and dryer are not flat but slightly curved and slants forward. You can stack any loose clothes or other items
on top...they'll just slide off.

Here's a link to the washer at HD.  Great reviews. I agree with most of the comments.

Thanks for your thoughts on the LG front loader Christine, LGs in general have very good reviews.   My granddaughter just yesterday bought a new Samsung washer/dryer and said they got it because of the good reviews.  I'm going to wait a week or so and see how they like it, then take some of my things over and wash a load or two. I'll take another look at the LG front loader too.  I thought once front loaders were locked you couldn't open them again.  I rarely see the Queen these days either but I like my clothes clean and I usually judge that by my whites.  Like the old detergent ads, was it Tide? that promised whiter whites that would make your neighbor jealous when she saw them hanging on the line.
