Re: [DIY] Need some advice for adhesive foam pipe insulation

If you've not zoned out on my questions yet, I have another re the pipe insulation.  This involves an 8-10' section, under the window in the front of the house, by about 36" tall - counter height - where these water pipes are.

After pulling off the siding we find the builder had put in R13 batt with 1" rigid foam panel, on the exterior side of the water pipes.  It is a 12" wide wall so that left lots of air space. Cold water froze one week - hot water froze the next week.  We planned to put the foam insulation on the pipes then add R30 batt over it.  Hit a snag since there is about 14" between studs all along the front and all the pipes run through holes cut in the studs. We can either cut short pieces of foam for each section of pipe — or use the pipe wrap.  Then we plan to add the batt insulation vertically between the studs.  We can access the pipes by cutting a square out of the foam so will leave it in place and put the cutout back in.  May have to go with an R24 since with the foam it leaves 11" behind the pipes.

I measured the water pipes at 2.25", divided by 3.14 (the only thing I remember from algebra) I get .716 which seems to be between ½ and ¾".  If we use tape it's not a problem and probably the foam at ¾" would be best if we go that way.  Any thought or recommendations are most appreciated.  We have to get the materials tomorrow and get it installed the next day while we have a few days of above freezing weather.

Thanks so much for your patience!!
