[DIY] Thermostats

Looking to get a new thermostat.  I'm checking out an all digital display model (no buttons).  Is there any disadvantage to getting an all digital display.

If you have a thermostat with a digital readout but manual buttons....and let's say the digital readout freezes or frys.....will the fan/system buttons still be active?  As in this set up...

Or am I overthinking this and generally these days there aren't issues with the displays on thermostats?

The model I'm looking at is this....

Looks like a downside on this is that in order to activate the backlight, you must press and activate any control on the display.  Hence, you'd need to push the arrow up a degree in order to check the actual temperature and then push the arrow back down to keep it at your desired temp.
