OK: so I am definitely planning on centering, no off-set or staggering. But more support w diagonal. We'll do it if we can, thanks. More work wise just because of more cutting? I guess we can look into. Let me know if there are any "big no no's " with diagnoal. Thanks

The reason is that it is supported on multiple boards with the underlayment joints going across under the the tile rather than with or along or in the same direction as the the grout joint. It's always more solid and I never have had a crack - Never. It's a little more labor intensive and time consuming but way easier than continually repairing the grout joint later. IMHO it looks better and solves the ever-present aesthetic problem of determining which direction the "pattern?" should go. My two cents...Good Luck...Ron
