The floor itself is good & sturdy, it's nailed in I think every 4-6 inches I think. Then we put the thin set then ditra mat. We decided against diagonal because we don't have the time (we're weekend warriors lol) for the extra cutting, were ready to get started, and didn't have this measurement tool that would have made the diagonal cuts alot better/easier/accurate. I think also hubby was worried about screwing it up w diagonal too.
So, we've done part of it. Not off-set, because it is a small space anyway (about 265 sq feet kitchen & dining) but did centered against each other. I forget the name but we've watched enough you tube that I shouldn't have. So, thanks for the heed but the floor is actually very sturdy, no spongy or lack of support anywhere, and then the ditra on top of it too.
Thanks guys still open to advice except we did decide on the pattern already :u).
