First, if you are planning on tile to add support to your floor than you
should not be laying tile in the first place, if the floor moves, you are
not ready to lay tile, second, I seem to have more waste on the diagonal, of
course that may just be me.

the underlayment joints going across under the the tile rather than with or
along or in the same direction as the the grout joint. It's always more
solid and I never have had a crack - Never. It's a little more labor
intensive and time consuming but way easier than continually repairing the
grout joint later. IMHO it looks better and solves the ever-present
aesthetic problem of determining which direction the "pattern?" should go.
