Re: [DIY] Speaking of outlets

I will admit that adding outlets is not my favorite pastime but over the years I have managed to take a lot of the guess work out of the process.

My first step is to drill a small 1/4 inch hole in the center of where the new outlet will be, then using a bent coat hanger I determine how far I am from the studs.  Next I drill an 1/8 inch hole through the floor next to the base board, directly below where the outlet will be, and hope I don't hit in the center of a floor joist, but if I do and since I've already determined about how much space I have from a stud I can slide the box one way or the other.  My next move is to stick the coat hanger down through the 1/8 inch hole I drilled in the floor and cut the hole for the box,  I then go under go under the house or into the basement and drill up through the wall plate using the wire through the floor as a guide, shove the wire up and hopefully have the wife grab and pull it through the hole for the box.  From there on it is pretty simple.  I try to have a roll of romex for each box I am adding so I can push and fish all of the wires at once.

The access to add wiring is extremely limited.
