RE: [DIY] How to wire

First, you need to find out if the power goes tot he light or the switch first.  Which ever it is, that's where you need to start the new run.  Always be sure you have both the hot and neutral along with the ground.  Since this is considered a damp location you need to use a GFCI.  A cover would be advised, also, since rain can theoretically be pushed to it by the wind or you might want to hose off the pourch some time.

On the other hand, you might want to use wiremolding on the inside of the house if you have an outlet you can tap into and run to where you want the outlet since it's easier do deal with.  The best way would be to drill out from an existing insid eoutlet, if you can.  If you are on the bottom floor, you can go under the house is you can crawl in there.  That way you won't have to deal with running the wire through the wall but mearly drilling down and splicing into existing wire.

Subject: [DIY] How to wire

I would like to install an electrical outlet on my covered front porch. I want to hook into the existing electric light and just run a wire down the wall and install the outlet. I know how to wire it and have it only "hot" when the light switch is turned on. My question is How to wire it so it is hot whether the light switch is on or not.

I know it can be done because I had it done at my other home.
i just don't the exact wiring sequence to accomplish it.
Thanks for all the assistance that I know will be offered!
