what temperature is it set on? if it is set near the top of the range on the thermostat, it may actually be doing what it is supposed to. if not near setting, check the temp of the hot water at nearest faucet to see if thermostat has gone bad. if all this checks ok, pop open the prv to clean out the inside of it, trash may be keeping it from closing all of the way

the pressure releive valve on my hot water heater is dripping. the heater is only one 1/2 years old .if i replace valve will this solve problem. water heater has been a problem since day one. whiched from propane to natural gas big mistake.
