Does it leak constantly, only when it is burning, or just when using water? If it is just at the moment you turn off the water suddenly, it may be a pressure surge issue. That is usually resolved by a "air hammer nipple which is installed in the water line. Besides factory ones, all you need is a length of pipe with a cap/plug on the end so as to trap air and give room for the water to have a "shock absorber" like action when a valve suddenly shuts off the water. The longer the pipe, the better. This could be installed anywhere on the water line, hot and/or cold. Are you on a well system?

Called whirlpool and they said i might have to install a diafram in cold water line coming in to heater to help control pressure. i need to find out if they come in 3/4 fittings .since i have a 3/4 flex line coming from from shutoff going right to nipple on heater.which is only 14 inches. at 90 o/o angle. i hope i have enough room to get fitings into add diafram .
