Re: [DIY] Washer/dryer

Okay Bill, You're ticked, but let's not trash the retailer. You must have had some part in the restocking fee, such as no receipt, returning outside the allowed time period, open package, etc. Please remember that return is a privilege, not a right, and a gift is not an opportunity to return so as to get extra cash; the giver wanted you to have something, otherwise they would have given you a check. The gift card is the standard refund if the retailer doesn't know the form of payment, or can't put it back on the card because the actual purchaseris not the one getting the money back. That's not singular to Sears; I'm sure customers have plenty of irritations with other retailers that will go unmentioned. I've received plenty of gifts I wasn't crazy for, and have quietly donated them to the thrift store, or made some other use of them, since I know the giver was giving something they thought was fabulous for me, and I don't want them to think I'm ungrateful for all their trouble.

As an aside, I have worked retail, and was appalled at the number of people who expect to get new merchandise for their old worn out stuff: 3 year old construction work boots, cotton jeans that have been dry cleaned and ironed with creases put in them for 4 years, a vacuum cleaner with a full bag because they don't intend to change the bag, etc. These kinds of things go on everyday and have resulted in the retailers having to make rules about return. As a result, some of us get caught up in those rules, even though we are not looking for an unreasonable reolution to the problem. I'm sure you are now thoroughly irritated, but I'm asking that you look at the situation from a broader perspective, that's all.

Thanks, Christine-Mpls
