Re: [DIY] How to put tile by tub

For starters, get a piece of thin steel bent in an L that will slip between the tub and the tile.  The steel over the top of the tub will protect its surface from mars and dings as you work.  There is no quick way but an oscillating tool with a carbide coated blade may do the job for you.  Do not try to force the tool, just light pressure to keep the blade against the material and let the tool do the work for you.  Keep in mind that the narrower the surface to be cut the quicker the cut, in other words keep cutting the tile from an edge, don't try to make long all at once cuts on the glazed surface.  You may find that the tile is quite soft after you get through the surface glaze.  You can also use a small saw with a diamond wheel to cut the tile.  I found a "knock-off" of the Versicut that retails for $129.00 for $41.00 at Menards over Christmas and it came with two diamond blades as well as panel and standard  carbide blades.  All you really need to do with a diamond blade is score the Surface and a sharp blow will break the tile.   HAVE FUN!!!  HF has a cut off tool for about 30.00 and if their 4" diamond blade will fit its arbor this would be a cheap way to score the tile.  I have one that I use mosty to cut off nails that are in the way and can't for what ever reason be pulled, it doesn't have bunches of power, but you don't want something that you can't control..

The person who installed our bathroom tile should be shot (or at least spanked).  The grout lines are so uneven, going from 1/4 an in to almost 3/4 of an inch and the grout is crumbling out.  We need to change the tile but we have a jetted tub which was put over the top of the tile.  How can we get the tile out without damaging the tub.  How do you cut it away right next to the tub? We can't lift out the tub so have to rip all the tile out, and retile up next to the tub.  Help!!
