We have done this in a couple of places Terry and have multiple bulbs in the fan light, but the are just 40's. The builder was very good and his homes are still very desirable ---- but I wonder if it was the time it was built, 1992, the cost or that most builders simply didn't think about things like lighting. Or it may be the mid-west. So many things we took for granted in CA weren't available here 20 years ago....our contractor had never heard of house wrap. On the other hand, he knew about freeze proof faucets, walk-out basements etc that we'd never heard of and were sure glad we listened!

If the light is single bulb and not bright enough, maybe U need to change fixture to one with multiple bulbs; not too hard, as most fan lights interchangeable
